Can I rescreen my own pool enclosure?

A single ground-level wall panel with an accessible frame is a genuinely reasonable do-it-yourself job with a spline roller and a roll of mesh from a hardware store. A roof panel, a two-storey panel, anything under a live oak canopy, or anything touching the frame itself is a different call.

Where the line actually is

Panel, height, and what you’re standing on

  • Reasonable DIY: one ground-level wall panel, frame in good shape, no ladder involved.
  • Call someone: roof or upper panels — a fall risk over a pool deck, not a beginner job.
  • Call someone: anything under a mature live oak canopy. The City of Oviedo requires a permit to remove any canopy tree, so the practical answer to repeat limb damage is tougher mesh and proper tension, not a DIY patch that fails again next season.
  • Call someone: a corroded upright, a racked door frame, or anything where the frame itself — not just the mesh — needs work. That can be a permit question. See the Oviedo permit guide.
  • Check first: in Live Oak Reserve, any change to the frame runs into the ARC’s bronze-aluminum rule, even if the mesh work itself is simple.
A useful gut check

If more than three or four panels on the same cage have gone, it is rarely still a DIY afternoon — that is a full-cage question. More on that decision.

can i rescreen my own pool enclosure

A single ground-level wall panel with a sound frame is a reasonable DIY job with a spline roller and mesh from a hardware store. Roof or upper panels, anything under a live oak canopy, and anything touching the frame itself — a corroded upright, a racked door — are not: the height is a real fall risk, and frame work in Oviedo can run into permitting or, in Live Oak Reserve, the ARC’s bronze-frame rule. The City of Oviedo also requires a permit to remove a canopy tree, so the fix for recurring limb damage is a tougher mesh, not cutting the tree back yourself.

Next step

Get your cage looked at

Tell us the neighborhood, roughly how many panels are torn, and whether the cage is single or two storey. That is enough to give you a real number instead of a range.
