Rust stains on pool cage screws and anchors

Pool cage frames are aluminum and do not rust. The orange or brown streak below a fastener is the zinc-plated steel screw itself corroding once its coating wears through — on Oviedo’s 1985–2003 cage stock, that coating has had decades of Central Florida humidity to work on.

The stain is the fastener, not the frame

Cosmetic, until it isn’t

Self-tapping steel screws hold most Oviedo pool-cage frames together. Once the zinc plating wears through, the steel underneath corrodes and bleeds rust down the aluminum, leaving the streak. The streak itself is cosmetic. What it tells you is that the fastener underneath has started to fail.

Alafaya Woods (1985–1996), Twin Rivers (1987–1997) and Tuska Ridge (1989–2003) are Oviedo’s largest blocks of cages old enough for this to be the norm rather than the exception. Live Oak Reserve, mostly 2001–2010, has not had time to get here yet on most homes.

Structural pricing

No published source prices fastener replacement as a standalone line item — it is usually folded into why a panel or full-cage job was booked in the first place. Where the upright itself has to come out, that is structural work:

rust stains on pool cage screws and anchors

Pool cage frames are aluminum and do not rust; the streak comes from the zinc-plated steel screws holding the frame together, once their coating wears through after decades in Florida humidity. If the screw is still tight and turns cleanly, the stain is cosmetic. If the head shears off when touched, shows visible pitting, or the panel wobbles at that point, the fastener has structurally failed and needs replacing. Alafaya Woods, Twin Rivers and Tuska Ridge — Oviedo’s largest blocks of 1985–2003 cages — are old enough that this is the norm rather than the exception.

Tell us the neighborhood, roughly how many panels are torn, and whether the cage is single or two storey. That is enough to give you a real number instead of a range.
