Pool screen repair in Alafaya Woods, Oviedo

Alafaya Woods is Oviedo’s largest single block of aging pool cages: 2,230 homes built 1985–1996 off Alafaya Trail, original 1980s–90s aluminum frames, and mesh that is almost certainly on its second or third life.

What thirty-plus years does to a cage

The build-era diagnosis

Thirty-plus years of Central Florida humidity does two specific things to a self-tapping-screw aluminum frame: galvanic corrosion at the screw heads, and spline channels that have gone chalky and slightly deformed. The result is not that the mesh just tears — it pulls out of the channel and takes the spline with it, which is why splines popping out and screen sagging both trace back to the same root cause on a cage this age.

Rust bleeding from the screws themselves is the other reliable sign — see rust stains on pool cage screws for how to tell cosmetic from structural.

What it means for the job

Permitting, and when one panel means the whole cage

A like-for-like mesh rescreen in an existing, unmodified Alafaya Woods frame is not held to any published permit checklist — Oviedo’s permit guidelines have no rescreen category at all. If more than three or four panels have failed on the same cage, the rest are the same age under the same sun and are usually within a season of the same fate. Next step

Get your cage looked at

Tell us the neighborhood, roughly how many panels are torn, and whether the cage is single or two storey. That is enough to give you a real number instead of a range.
